I, Alli M.G., created Lotus Dragon Studio... it embodies who I am, what I do and why I do it.
“We are not going to change the whole world, but we can change ourselves and feel free as birds. We can be serene even in the midst of calamities and, by our serenity, make others more tranquil. Serenity is contagious. If we smile at someone, he or she will smile back. And a smile costs nothing. We should plague everyone with joy. If we are to die in a minute, why not die happily, laughing? (136-137)”
― Sri S. Satchidananda, The Yoga Sutras”
I am a woman whos life journey started with a childhood dream of being wild and untamed...
or perhaps that's just what felt best. I love squishing mud between my toes and marveling at little bugs. I am instantly tranquilized by the love of any animal. Nature in it's blooming spring calls to me. The sounds of crystal bowls, Tibetan singing bowls, water and the wild give me peace.
But this is not my young adulthood journey...
As untamed and wild as I would have liked to stay I found comfort in the challenge of stage acting. Using this as a means to experience a different world through characters written into a script filled me with joy. I did this through college until I found the excitement of MOTORCYCLES!
WOW, what a thrilling ride. Wild and Free... and a little crazy, but that couldn't stop me! No... I wanted more. I knew I was great with my hands, my mind is sharp and my desire to do something untamed and wild still burning inside me.
Out of college and motorcycles in my life lead me to the wonders of racing... not me, but being around racing! So becoming a mechanic was the immediate answer- I jumped in feet first! I became a certified Honda & Yamaha motorcycle mechanic... released into the giant world with a wrench in my hand a grease on my cheeks.
Let's fast forward... that wild and free spirit has never left me. After 10 years in the motorcycle industry I realized that my life was still missing it's mark. Massage called to me and I answered. It was thrilling and exciting...sparking that wild and free child inside of me- but WHY and for WHAT?
How could Massage spark the untamed wild child inside of me? It's a calming art...
For the first 10 years of massaging I couldn't answer that question. I was still involved with motorcycles when I gained my massage license and my attention to the calling was not fully undivided. It wasn't until just recently when the pandemic hit and forced me out of owning a private gym with my husband into a learning experience in a medical massage facility. I took continuing education classes, brushed up my art and found that spark again...this time, my attention was fully engaged!
Remember the untamed wild child, squishing mud, loving animals and finding joy in nature? Massage allows me give and receive nurturing love, learning to become an herbalist brings me closer to nature, and the ability to creatively bring it all together gives me the feeling of being free and untamed. I can be boxed in... but I flourish when I am given the ability to be free, wild and untamed by societal boundaries while still providing for my family and I.
Well... it's not for the money! No, my happiness resides in the look on my clients faces. That is What for. It's for the feeling that I, alone, helped some one in need to feel better, be better! What for...because I now I have to go into nature to source herbs I know are medicinal and healing for my clients. Now I have to squish my toes in the mud, run wild with twigs and leaves in my hair, as I jump the creek and climb the trees! Now I have to keep learning while listening to the wind and natures calls. What for? Because it brings me back to a simpler way to be... and it offers happiness and relief to those who entrust me with their bodies, minds and spirits! To me, it's honoring who I am, why I am here and for what it brings to those around me.
